kid stuff

yesterdays book post got me thinking about books i absolutely loved when i was little. so here are some of my all time favorite children's books that you've probably never heard.

nattie parsons' good luck lamb by lisa campbell ernst
i love this book still to this day. i even bought it for my niece. it's about a girl who's favorite sheep might get sold so she uses his wool to make a shawl. it's so freaking cute.

apple tree christmas by trinka hakes noble
this is another one i've given to taylor. it's about a family who lives on a farm and their apple tree gets knocked down in an ice storm. that description makes it sound boring but it's super sweet.

annie and the wild animals by jan brett
i got to meet jan brett once and i got this book autographed by her. i have almost all of her books. i stopped getting them though because after she wrote the mitten she kinda hit a rut. most of her newer ones follow the same format and why would i want the same book just a different setting? but this one is fabulous. it's about a little girl who feeds the animals in the forest and they come to her house. i also liked this book because i looked like the main character.

fritz and the beautiful horses by jan brett
fritz is this little pony that nobody wants to ride and the beautiful horses make fun of him. then a little girl gets lost and he's the only horse that can save her.

imogene's antlers by david small
this is a reading rainbow book so you may be familiar with it. it's about a girl who waked up and has antlers. i don't remember why but i remember she puts doughnuts on them and feeds the birds or something like that.

miss rumphius by barbara cooney
my mom loves this book. it's about an older lady who wants to make the world more beautiful so she goes around and plants flowers.

the little house by virginia lee burton
i remember my dad reading me this at night. i always thought it was so cool. it's about a family that moves but they take the house with them. i think that perpetuated the idea that i can just move my house to where ever i want to live.

ok i'll stop now. i could really go on for along time on this topic. maybe when i go home at christmas i can pull out my boxes of books and think of some more. this post might be a ten parter.

song lyrics of the day:
a summer of abandoned words
lost in the torn out pages
and the centerpiece of your own views
