the floppy kind

i am currently reading eat, pray, love by elizabeth gilbert. i started reading it on the way home from my last trip from omaha. yeah that was a long time ago. i'm a spurt reader. i will start a book and read a ton and then put it some where and not touch it for weeks. then there are times when i will start a book and finish it in days. when i was younger i used to read two and three books at a time. reading has always been encouraged in my house. i have sooo many books childrens books, teen books, fiction, non fiction, i have them all. except trashy chic lit. i really don't like those dumb books. i've read a couple but they're for sure on the bottom of my list. i'd put them right above autobiographies, biographies, historical fiction, and boring non fiction about wars and crap.

i got my love of books from my mom. we both have a book buying addiction. we go to borders and leave with stacks of books and then like 3 years later we finally read it. she is a huge reader herself and always buys books as gifts. because of her i have some awesome kids books that i can't wait to share with my kids. when i was little my babysitter used to call reading the r word. if i heard somebody say read i'd pull out a huge stack of books and say "read me read me" and wouldn't stop until you read the whole stack. i always had at least one bedtime story. i used to walk home from school while reading. yeah, i'm that good. i used to watch reading rainbow and write down the names of books i wanted to read. (so sad that reading rainbow isn't on the air anymore)

i loved going to the library. all the librarians knew me by name and i always did the summer reading program there. i even won the bookmark designing contest one year. (you didn't know i was such a big deal did you?) as i got older i didn't really like going to the library as much because i often couldn't read a book in two weeks and i hated rechecking and rechecking the book out.

then when i got into high school i didn't really read a lot. mostly because i didn't always have time and once reading for school got more intense it wasn't as fun. i generally don't like being forced to read things. i tend to not like the books as much. reading for school really isn't fun when you have already read the book. i had to read johnny tremaine in 4th grade and 8th grade. i hated it the first time but i actually liked it the second time. patrick makes fun of me because i haven't read a lot of classic literature like tom sawyer and the count of monte cristo. my response is i took brit lit in high school. i had to read poems and sonnets and beowulf. (barf)

i'm hoping to finish eat, pray, love this week. next books on my list are....
beautiful boy by david sheff
tweak by nic sheff
salem falls by jodi piccult (love her)
twilight by stephanie meyer (yeah i know i'm way behind)
the shack by william p. young

oh and the title of this post comes from a brogan story. (what else) oh he's my nephew if you don't know. my mom took my niece and nephew to where the wild things are and my mom asked if he had that book. he said he did. my mom asked if it was his or if it was mine. he said " it's mine, it's the fwappy(floppy) kind.

song lyrics of the day:
it i could read your mind love
what a tale your thoughts could tell
just like a paperback novel
the kind that drugstores sell
